Roddy has recently retired from Police Scotland where he served for 27 years. During this time he gained expertise in the Firearms / Armed Policing and the Aviation Protective Security arena. In 2014, he became Chief Firearms Instructor for Lothian and Borders Police and was heavily involved in the design, delivery and assurance around both armed response operations and training. He led on an investigation into the Police involvement of a shooting. He was integral in the formation of the Armed Policing model for Police Scotland at its inception. He was responsible for the delivery of training to all levels of command and to other agencies, to ensure joint situational awareness. In 2017 he transferred into Borders Policing Command, where he headed the Protective Security Policing Operation as Airport Commander. He was responsible for Operations and Incident Management. In 2018 he led the Joint Multi Agency Response during a Marauding Terrorist Firearms Attack that tested not only the initial actions of blue light services but examined the return of the Airport to Business as Usual.
