Simon Roberts joined the Metropolitan Police in 1989 and has 30 years’ experience in operational policing, public order, partnership, intelligence, protective security penetration testing and counter terrorism. In 2014 Simon joined the National Counter Terrorism Security Office and working in close liaison with UK Security Services he was responsible for the training of Counter Terrorism Security Advisors in the UK and the strategic development and delivery of guidance security guidance to crowded places, hazardous sites, personal protective security for those being targeted and supporting the CPNI at critical national infrastructure.

Responding to evolving terrorist methodologies and working with business partners he was responsible for the implementation of online counter terrorism e-learning for business, with 150,000 staff and 4500 companies having participated in the first 12 months. Coordinating the input of over 100 national experts, he delivered the national crowded places guidance manual, providing advice and awareness to best mitigate terrorist activity for business and crowded places. He developed personal security guidance and manual following an upsurge in terrorist and extremist attack methodology and targeting. He produced national guidance on a response to threat change and a national terrorism awareness campaign to reduce the threat from terrorist attack, reaching 1 million people. He designed and implemented security measures and protocols for all Members of Parliament from terrorists and criminals for their homes and constituency offices nationally. He led a comprehensive review of the guidance for polling stations and counting offices on behalf of the Electoral Commission and Cabinet Office. Responding to the global use of vehicles in terrorist attacks, he coordinated the delivery of national guidance for commercial vehicle companies to reduce the vulnerability to the UK. In 2016 Simon reviewed and delivered updated resilience around UK to national stadia and night time venues and activities. In 2015 he was the International Liaison Officer for the British Olympic Association and British Embassy, travelling to Azerbaijan, providing appropriate guidance and security advice for the Pan European Games.

Simon holds a City and Guilds Graduateship in Counter Terrorism Security Management and is currently studying a Masters in Crowd Science and risk at Manchester Metropolitan University.
